Prof. Simon Attard Montalto graduated MB.ChB from Liverpool University in 1985, and was awarded a Higher Doctorate (MD) from the same University in 1999 following his research on children undergoing intensive therapy for malignant disease.
Prof. Attard Montalto trained in Paediatrics, initially at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool and later, Great Ormond Street, Guy’s and St. Bartholomew’s Hospitals, London. He returned to Malta in 1996 as Chairman of the Clinical Department of Paediatrics and was also appointed Head of the Academic Department of Paediatrics at the Medical School in 1998.
He was instrumental in developing the Paediatric Department and NPICU at Mater Dei Hospital, and is a European Resuscitation Council (ERC) National Course Director for EPLS and Instructor for GIC, BLS and NLS. He has published widely on various topics concerning child health and, in addition, has co-authored five books for postgraduate and undergraduate training in Paediatrics. He has chaired numerous administrative and clinical committees within the Divisions of Health, as well as academic committees in the Medical School in Malta. Prof Attard Montalto is the Chairman of the Malta Resuscitation Council.
Prof. Attard Montalto is currently Professor of Paediatrics within the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery at the University of Malta and also the Head of Department for Paediatrics at Mater Dei Hospital. He is not new to voluntary work, as, among several other initiatives, he we has instrumental in setting up the Tiny Infant Parent Support Group (TIPS), and had also supported the setting up of the Corinthia Paediatric Research Fund.
